I know front loaders washers are way better than top loader, but my in-laws bought me my wife and I a set of Speed-Queens for a house-warming gift. Aside from a set of felt gaskets for the drum and two drive belts on the washer, they haven't caused any problems, and that is over the past 22 years, two kids, (one a girl who wears three outfits a day).

What ever happened to Speed-Queen? And how can I kill these ineffecient but way-too-reliable beasts as an excuse to buy new ones?

There's an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Or, in the case of the government, "If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is."

You are blessed to have a pair of laundry appliances that have given you 22 years of excellent service. Consider that for new appliances today, you'll be doing some type of repair every 2 to 4 years. That's right. You think about 2 to 4 vs. 22 and then think again about getting sucked in by the glitzy new appliance marketing photos.

http:www.appliances411.com/purchase/sears.shtml has a table that will tell who made your Kenmore based on the first three digits of the number before the space or dot. You probably already know this but I thought I'd let you know if you don't

Thanks and Good Work

Bearcove1@aol.com

Thanks Samurai,
Last week the wife had informed me that the washing machine no longer drains. That was an easy fix.So feeling proud of my self I was bragging how I did this with no help or directions. Her reply was "good now you can fix the dryer too" What The.........
so I tore into it thats when I ran into trouble. As well as found this site, know I know replacing a belt is easy. I just didden't know that you have to tear the whole dryer apart to get to it I only ended up with two missing parts when I put it back together.(pretty good for a virgin appliance repair job) one screw and one bracket. Any way Thanks to you I diddent have to spend any more then 15.00 to fix the dryer. Now that I know youre here hopfully I never have to call a repair man again. So when the next applance breaks Im comming back.
