2.3 million Maytag and Jenn Air dishwashers are being recalled for a very real fire risk. GE QuietPower dishwasher: beeping, blinking, and not running but…

Monday, January 15th, 2007

…other than that, it works great! And it sure looks sharp filling in that big gap in the cabinets. What’s that? You say you’d like it to actually wash dishes, too? OK, I guess we can talk about that after you try cutting power to the dishwasher for at least 15 [...]

Miele Dishwasher - No Water

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

I went on a service call for a three-year old Miele dishwasher; the complaint was that water wouldn’t enter the basin. Miele coded the call as warranty unless the problem was customer-induced or caused by external factors. After some preliminary troubleshooting, I found that the water inlet hose had been attacked by a [...]

Dishwasher Leaves a Film and Gookus All Over the Dishes and Glassware

Monday, August 7th, 2006

If your dishwasher is leaving film and gookus deposits on your dishes after running through the cycle, the problem is most likely one of three things: 1) insufficient water fill in the basin, 2) poor draining between cycles, or 3) your water is too hard.

GE Dishwasher Drainology

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

If your GE dishwasher isn’t draining, this cheat sheet will step you through the most common causes.

Using Drāno to Unclog a Dishwasher?

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I know, you would think this is an obvious Bozo No-No. Not only will caustic chemicals, like Drāno, inflict more injury on your dishwasher, it does nothing to fix the problem. But, incredibly, there are mental midgets out there who do this and then don’t bother telling the appliance servicer that their dishwasher [...]

Asko 1303 Dishwasher Won’t Start

Monday, June 19th, 2006

First, check the usual suspects: Make sure the circuit breaker isn’t tripped and that the wires at dishwasher’s power junction box aren’t burnt. If all that checks out, then go right to the control panel area.

Asko dishwashers have had problems with the wiring in the control panel area burning or melting– very messy. [...]

Bosch Dishwasher Takes Forever to Complete a Cycle

Friday, June 9th, 2006

I have actually been on a service call where the customer had hired another servicer to repair this problem. The other servicer, obviously merely a parts-changing monkey and not a real technician, simply slapped in a new heating element, didn’t bother to check his work, collected his money, and left. I asked the [...]

Friday, June 9th, 2006

You know the story: you load up your Maytag dishwasher, start the cycle and it fills ok, but it just doesn’t sound like it’s doing any serious dishwashing. In fact, when you open the door at the end of the cycle, all your dishes still have chunks of spam and bits of spinach [...]
