Dear Beacon-of-Hope Samurai:

Hope this is the right place to post a question -- if not, I offer my apologies. I am befuddled by a gas cooktop made by Stoves (I think a European company?) which has gone out of business. It was installed by the previous homeowner, and adapted for propane. On two of the burners, the igniters continue to click when the burner is already lit, and click throughout the range of burner settings from high to low. The burners light promptly, and *occasionally* (rarely)functions properly, so I must say it must be sort of intermittent. Where do we begin to search for the answer, Master? What kind of thing is this?

Konichiwa, Kate. I think I remember talking with you about this on the hotline. While I'm not familiar with the Stoves brand in particular, I am very familiar with how gas cooktops work and can offer my insight into what the problem might be, or at least, where to begin your investigation.

It sounds like two of the burner switches have gone bad and you'll need to to replace them. This leaves the problem of getting replacement parts. Stoves is an English brand and you might have luck finding parts for this cooktop here. Go forth and conquer!

P.S. I meant to include a link to an illuminating and inspiring Appliantiology article that will help you diagnose your cooktop's ignition problem, How to Troubleshoot a Gas Stove that Won't Fire Up.
