My GE GSD530 dishwasher was doing just what you described - humming but not pumping water.

I manually turned the pump fan as described in link below (Stuck Motor) and our 12 year old dishwasher is working great.

I also cleaned out gunk around the fan blades which may help it to continue working.

Thanks for the tip.

My Moms GE Dishwasher had the same problem, Repairman told her to pound on pump fan motor, but I tried that and it did not work. I turned the pump motor manually and after awhile it kicked in and now the washer works fine. BTW the Fan is near the column that come down in the center and is exposed on the bottom. spin the fan for while with your fingers with the dishwasher off, then turn the washer on and spin the fan again with a screwdriver. it should kick in.- M
