Fixitnow.com: Kicking Appliance Butt All Over The Globe

NOTE: This is not the current What's New? log. The current log is here.

May 26, 2002

I got sick of hand-coding this page every time I wanted to make an entry so the current What's New? posts are blogged here.

May 13, 2002

Added some new haikus you can use for appliance repair.

May 11, 2002

Added two more Appliantology articles (hey, am I stuck in a rut?): parts breakdowns and use and care manuals for the most common major appliance brands.

May 10, 2002

Added two new Appliantology articles. One on converting your gas range from LP to natural gas or vice versa, and another on diagnosing dishwasher leaks.

May 9, 2002

Added a new Appliantology article on diagnosing washer residue left on your clothes. We work feverishly here at Fixitnow.com to bring you new appliance information at glacial speed!

May 1, 2002

This website has grown like a cudzoo patch in Georgia and it's become easy to get lost or, worse, to not find the answer to your problem when it could've been right here all along. In my tireless efforts to make the vast repository of wisdom here at Fixitnow.com more accessible to you, my loyal Grasshoppers, I have added yet another navigational aid to assist you in your quest for appliance enlightenment. See the persistent text menu of key website pages in the left-hand margin of your screen? I stayed up 'till 5am installing that damn thing on all webpages on this site so you'd be able to get around easier. I hope you're happy! (P.S., If you are, please give to the United Samurai Beer Fund. Mucho Domos.)

April 23, 2002

Extensively re-organized the navigation of the website to, hopefully, make it mo' bettuh and consolidated all appliance help in the Appliance Repair Help Center.

April 18, 2002

Added yet another new article in the Appliantology washer section. This one on replacing the drive coupler in direct drive washers.

April 17, 2002

Added a new article in the Appliantology washer section on removing the cabinet from your Whirlpool/Kenmore direct-drive washer. I'm really liking using the forum as the primary vehicle for transmitting these articles. It's easier for me, especially if I need to edit later on. Part of my effort to make the information here at Fixitnow.com "tighter" with similar topics kept in one place, easily accessed and not scattered in several places. Ok, that's enough of that.

April 16, 2002

Added two new Appliantology articles, both on RV refrigerators. The first is on understanding how gas refrigerators fail, and the other explains what to do after your RV fridge leaks.

And while I was at it, I thought, "Fertn Ingertn! I'll make a whole new gas refrigerator section of the Appliantology Reading Room. And just in time for RV season, too!

April 15, 2002

Added the web's most definitive and comprehensive gas stove burner troubleshooting guide. If you have a gas range or stove with an ignition problem on the surface burners, check this out before you replace the spark module.

April 9, 2002

Added three new Appliantology articles, all in the icemaker/fridge category. The first article is icemaker fill tube freeze-ups and the second is on installing icemaker water supply lines. The third is the refrigeration article on the Maytag/Amana adaptive defrost control (ADC).

April 6, 2002

Added a new page on the United Samurai Beer Fund®. "Because a mind to a terrible thing to not be wasted."

April 3, 2002

Here we go again, the seemingly annual ritual where I move my website to another host. Have you ever noticed that all web hosts absolutely suck out loud after a while? It's not a matter of if, but how soon. Take Yahoo, my current host. Started out great, very reliable, fast servers. Then the gitch-fest started. Outages here and there...ok, a few outages of an hour or so are to be expected and completely understandable, but 13 hours!? Yep, that was the last outage. And customer service is slow to respond and generally unhelpful. Time to get a new landlord.

I went looking for a webhost that emphasized reliability and uptime and I found Bluedomino.com. The most compelling thing that made me go with them was that they brag an amazing 99.999% uptime--that's no more that 24 seconds of downtime per month! As we sing in verse #172 of your hymnals, "We shall seeeeeeeee, we shall seeeeee. We-Shall-See. Oh We-Shall-See."

So, this is transition week. Access to my website might be intermittent as the DNS change propagates through the web. I appreciate your patience and loyalty. Keep the faith! We shall overcome! I had a dream! Don't let the man keep you down!

April 2, 2002

Wrote the web's first online small appliance repair manual. This manual covers small and personal appliances such as electric toothbrushes, blenders, mixers, etc. Check it out and lemme know if it helped you.

April 1, 2002

Added a page of weird forum posts. I've been getting some strange posts in the forum lately and I wanted to make it easy for you read the weirder ones. Whoa!

Finally, after requests from literally thousands of people all over the world, I've added a small appliance repair forum for non-major and personal appliances that don't really belong in either the Kitchen or Laundry forums. Looks like it's going to be popular, people have already made posts! Check it out.

March 30, 2002

Added a new page of wiring diagrams for most major brand washers and dryers.

March 29, 2002

Added a couple new things on the Whirlpool/Kenmore washers; one on telling whether it's a belt-drive or direct-drive and the other on fixing the agitator in the direct-drive version of these fine washers.

Hey, ever wonder "How do I git that frikkin' agitator outta my washer?"

Y'know, sometimes I make me wonder, "Who the hell am I and what's my problem?"

March 22, 2002

Three consecutive entries--I'm just on a roll! I added a voice recording introduction to the website, The Samurai Speaks. This is recorded in the new DSS format. If you don't have a DSS player, you can download the FREE DSS Lite player to listen to the message. hear the Samurai speak. It's painless, just click the download link and select the option to open the program from it's current location, it'll do the rest. Lemme know what you think of this--if folks seem to like it, I'll add recordings for other parts of the website, too, like the haiku page.

March 21, 2002

Added a new Appliantology article, ""Water Flows into My Washer but the Tub Never Fills Up!"

March 20, 2002

Added a new page explaining the rules of etiquette at Fixitnow.com. Please memorize them--there will be a surprise pop quiz in the morning.

March 17, 2002

Your humble Grand Master, Samurai Appliance Repair Man, has achieved ultimate appliance satori (enlightenment) and wishes to share this wisdom with his precious grasshoppers. I have written some haikus you can use to lead you to a more full revelation of appliance wisdom. They are my gift to you. Go in peace, my child.

March 11, 2002

I'm hitting the trail for a few days in the White Mountains with a buddy who's driving up from Pennsylvania. I'll be gone from Tuesday, March 12, through Friday, March 15. In the meantime, please make full use of the appliance repair helps available here at Fixitnow.com and at RepairClinic.com. Talk to you soon!

February 27, 2002

Ok, ok, a real update on what's new here at Fixitnow.com. I added a parts store section right on the homepage to make it easier to find the parts you're looking for. Check it out, it's on the right hand side in the yellow bar, you can't miss it. We have significant monthly expenses keeping Fixitnow.com on ad-free, speedy servers and selling appliance parts is our only source of revenue. So, please, if you need parts, get 'em through us. Thanks for your support!

I added a new page chock-full of home improvement and remodeling links.

I've been trying to decide whether I want to be a good Democrat or a bad American. What do you think?

February 22, 2002

Let's see, since June of last year I've been backpacking in Banff, hiking with the Hillstompers, and sleeping in the snow. How 'bout yer bad self?
