Whirlpool dishwasher impeller parts found inside, makes scraping sound

Your Name: Chris

Type of Appliance: Dishwasher

Brand: Whirlpool quiet wash plus

Model Number: DU8950XY-1

Your Precious Words:
It was not draining so I tried everything….so i finally took the motor pump apart..I got down to the filter and when I took it off there was a giant can opener(like on top of a coke can) and underneath was a spring…when I took the filter off, this part of the impeller kit came off…so I put it back on and the washer made a scrapping sound…I took it back a part and took off the spring and can opener looking part and put it back together and now it “seems” to be working….Do I need this part and if so, how do I re install it properly?

Whirlpool Dishwasher Impeller Parts

Yep, the impeller inside your dishwasher has done what we professional appliantologists call, “broke.” That is to say, a catastrophic mechanical failure of the materials such that the dishwasher is no longer able to fulfill its design function.

Pictured below is the impeller and seal kit for your dishwasher, notice that the piece you found and sent me the photo of is among the parts of the kit:

Impeller and Seal Kit

You just need to replace the impeller kit, which you can get right here ==> http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Impeller-and-Seal-Kit/675806/679717

Kitchenaid dishwasher selector buttons won’t work

Your Name: Matt

Type of Appliance: Dishwasher

Brand: kitchen aid

Model Number: KUDl01lBL3

Your Precious Words:
Pressing the cancel button will run the pump/motor, pressing it again will turn it off. None of the other selector buttons will work. Water level float is free and moving. Handle switch works when closed. Turned power on/off to reset, no change. Any suggestions?

Hi Matt,

This is a classic case of worn buttons on the touchpanel. Very common problem in these dishwashers and very easy to fix, too. Just replace the touchpad and control panel assembly. Pick your flavorite color control panel here, all come with a 365-day return policy ==> http://www.repairclinic.com/Touchpad-Parts?s=t-KUDl01lBL3-%3d%3dc63?RCAID=24038

Looking for a touchpanel for a Whirlpool dishwasher

Your Name: Owen

Type of Appliance: Dishwasher

Brand: Whirlpool

Model Number: GU1500XTLB2

Your Precious Words:
I need a new Touchpad for the Control Panel. It is an Ark-Les Corp item with P/N 8274590. Looks like I may need a dishwasher that is to be recycled, so I can remove the Touchpad. Can you direct me to such a machine?

Hi Owen,

You came to the right place! I just happened to have the touchpad and control panel for your dishwasher right here AND it comes with a 365-day return policy ==> http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Touchpad-and-Control-Panel/8534839/941404?modelNumber=GU1500XTLB2?RCAID=24038

If you’re looking to replace just the touchpad itself not pre-assembled into the control panel, well, good luck with that. Those are manufactured exclusively for Whirlpool Corporation and the way that works is that Whirlpool agrees to buy boocoo touchpads at a pre-negotiated, hefty discounted price. So, unless you’re prepared to buy several thousand, Ark-Les Corp probably won’t even give you the time of day.

Kitchenaid dishwasher touchpanel won’t respond; control board already replaced. What’s the problem?

Your Name: jeff

Type of Appliance: Dishwasher

Brand: kitchenaid

Model Number: kudio1il

Your Precious Words:

I have a kitchenaid dishwasher. Started acting up. Only some of the buttons would work… and ‘start’ would not start the unit. I have a video above of the full problem, as well as what happens when I do the ‘reset’ procedure I read about online.

I tried replacing the circuit board (twice!). it will work ONE TIME after replacing, then go back to the same problem. If I unplug for >12 hours, it also seems to work again for ONE TIME… but that is actually not 100% reliable.

I was thinking my next step is to replace the touch pad…. but was hoping you might be able to help me out. before I waist more money.

Hi Jeff,

I’m embedding the video you made in this post for illustrative purposes:

This is a classic bad touchpanel. The model number you gave is incomplete so I went with model number KUDI01DLBL1 for discussion purposes.

The touchpad that you need to replace. ==> http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Touchpad/8531249/961943?modelNumber=KUDI01DLBL1?RCAID=24038

If you click on that link and enter the complete model number off of your tag on the dishwasher, you will be sure to find the exact touchpad that you need for your dishwasher. Model number tag location help here ==> http://www.repairclinic.com/General/Help-Me-Find-My-Model-Number

In any event, the touchpad is the part that’s bad and needs to be replaced.

Why is a Bosch dishwasher constantly running in drain mode?

Your Name: Elizabeth

Type of Appliance: Dishwasher

Brand: bosch

Model Number: shu9925uc

Your Precious Words:
My dishwasher will not turn off. I think it is in a constant drain mode though I am not sure. I tried your test for another, similar model by holding down the power’scrub and delicate buttons simultaneously, turning on and then releasing buttons. Those lights flashed and when those buttons were then pushed, the regular wash light went on.

How to fix a broken detergent dispenser on a Bosch dishwasher

jeff wrote:

the spring in my Bosch soap dispenser is broken. Can I just replace this spring or will I need to replace the entire dispenser. I cannot seem to get the spring in the door and then close it.

Depending on what exactly is broken on the dispenser, you may just need the detergent cup latch and spring kit:

Mailbag: How do you “unclog” a dishwasher?

Jesse wrote:

my nautilus dishwasher is clogged , what should i do, i tried putting declogger but it wotn work .help!

OMG! Are you saying you poured Drain-o in your dishwasher? If so, you likely ruined the seals and pump. Dishwashers don’t “drain,” they pump out. That means they have a pump that pumps the water out. The pump in your dishwasher may be bad or have something stuck in the impeller. Or there may be something clogged in the drain hose.

You’ll need to put on protective gloves and remove all that now-caustic, poisonous water from the basin using a sponge and bucket. Then you can go about trying to find the problem. We can help you do this in the Samurai School of Appliantology at www.Appliantology.org — read the green box up top there and start a new topic in the Kitchen Forum.

And if you call a repairman, be sure to tell him that you poured a drain unclogging chemical in there so he can protect himself!

Rehabilitating the Door Latch Assembly on an Old Kitchen Aid (Hobart) KDC-20A War Horse Dishwasher

This vintage dishwasher was from back on the good ol’ days when Kitchenaid dishwashers were made by Hobart. These were the heavy artillery, the battle tanks of the kitchen. If you’re blessed to have one these old war horses, you’ll want to hang on to it as long as you can because all dishwashers made today suck. The problem you’ll run into is that many of the parts are no longer available– NLA, as we professional appliantologists say with a wizened look while shaking our heads at the parts counter. One such NLA part is the door latch assembly. If yours craps out, this DIY guide will help you restore it back to service.
